Meet Miranda: An Introduction and Background Look

Hey Pomona,

Miranda here, reaching out to share a bit of my story and the vision that drives me.
As I step into the Pomona City Council District 6 race, I want to connect with you as a candidate and a fellow community member who's witnessed the same challenges that touch many of your lives.

A Life Rooted In Advocacy

From my earliest days in Pomona, the drive for social justice has been the compass guiding my actions. For over a decade, I've dedicated myself to serving our youth, especially those in foster care. I've led interactive trainings on reproductive and sexual health and worked to connect pregnant and parenting youth with the healthcare information they desperately need. This work isn't just a job; it's a commitment to uplifting the most vulnerable among us.

Beyond Borders: A Global Perspective on Local Change

My passion for social justice took me far from home to the halls of SOAS University of London, where I delved into Human Rights Law. This experience wasn't just academic—it was a call to action. I stood shoulder to shoulder with fellow students to tackle racial educational disparities and joined the fight against the UK's nationwide pension cut strikes, advocating for teachers' rights. These experiences abroad sharpened my understanding of the systemic challenges we face and the global movements fighting for equity and justice.

A Vision For Economic Justice in Pomona

The heart of my mission is economic justice—building thriving communities where working families can not only survive but flourish. Pomona, with all its diversity and potential, has the ingredients to be a model of such a community. But it requires leadership that's grounded in real-world challenges and committed to progressive solutions.

Bringing It All Home

My journey has taken me from Pomona to London and back with a clear vision: to harness my experiences for the betterment of our city. The challenges we face—from student loan debt to unemployment, from the needs of our foster youth to the struggles of unhoused families—are not just items on a policy agenda. They are the lived realities of our neighbors, demanding action, empathy, and a collective movement toward change.

Raising my daughter in Pomona has only amplified my commitment to these issues. As a current renter in Pomona, I know how impactful the cost of living can be, especially as a single parent putting my daughter through college.

My experiences as a mother have intertwined with my professional and activist endeavors, driving me to envision a Pomona where every family, every child—whether from a foster background or facing homelessness—has access to the resources and opportunities they need to thrive.

Join Me in This Movement

This campaign is about more than just one seat on the council. It's about igniting a movement in Pomona that's rooted in social justice, advocacy, and collective action. It's about leveraging everything I've learned to serve you, to serve us.

I'm here, Pomona, ready to roll up my sleeves and get to work. But I need you with me. Together, we can bring about the real, progressive change our city needs. Let's make it happen.
